We cant have too many bishops, priests, ...or deacons for that matter.
:)
*sigh*
I meant there is no such thing as too many of the aforementioned.
:D
I got it and I quite agree ... with the second formulation. ;-)
I can verify that this rumor has "the ring of truth" all around St. Tikhon's. Fr. Leo will make a fantastic bishop. He is a man who deeply loves the Lord and His people, and he also has a very strong sense of what is real and what is not. :)
We'll miss him around here.
It is good to hear such a great endorsement.
Although the verdict was in a while back, I thought it would good to update this thread:
His Eminence, Archbishop DMITRI's request to have Fr. Leo installed as a bishop in the Southeast was officially denied (much to the dismay of His Eminence who is still astonished and saddened by the decision). Archbishop DMITRI reiterated his opinion that Fr. couldn't be a finer priest and probably would have made an excellent bishop. The fact that the OCA would have been hard-pressed to replace Fr. Leo at the seminary might have contributed to the decision. There is apparently another "potential" bishop in the wings - we'll see how that goes ... 60 parishes from Florida to Virgina to New Mexico and Texas is simply too much for one bishop.

Not really a rumor.
Abp. DMITRI brought Fr. Leo to the S.E. Diocese Clergy retreat in Atlanta earlier this year, and he made no secret of the fact that he was recruiting Fr. Leo as his Auxiliary Bishop (pending approval of the Synod of Bishops).
Just last month His Eminence noted that he didn't anticipate the grant of an Auxiliary for some time - glad to see plans are in the works.
Dude, you're anonymous.
Glad to hear I've blundered on something accurate. Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then. ;-)

... How'd you know it was me :).
Don't know what happened. I am still the Zvonar! ... maybe that was a sign that I need to throw in the hat and stop commenting. :O

By the way, you are probably one of the few lawyers, and Orthodox Deacons for that matter, who knows what an IP address is, let alone how to make use of one. Further, you move into the realm of "way too cool" by having taught yourself several computer programming languages as a means of "helping the masses." Some people might call you a geek, but I call you my hero.

Well, I've hit the wall with PHP. www.theologian.org has a great calendar but I can't figure out how to reach out and grab the data so I can steal it for my website.

Ask them for their data file or database (and the PHP Source code for that matter) - chances are high that they'll give it to you ... 1-888-ST-JOHN-6! (that's funny - haven't ever seen a parish with a toll-free number like that).

Sorry - posted anonymous again ... it happens when I switch between my PC and my laptop. I'll try to be careful during my next laptop posting.

No problem.
I've actually been talking to their webmaster all day. He's trying to come up with a PHP script that will do what I want.
I've actually now fooled around with it enough that I can call the data into an html page on my site, but it isn't delimited in fields. It's all run together as one variable.
I'll likely keep on until I get it. At least I know how to access the file and grab the data.
But I've got to stop working on that and get these blasted St. STephen's essays done.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job! Wait ... you're not doing this while maintaining your primary career as clergy, your secondary career in corporate law, and your job as a student in the St. Stephens course (not to mention fatherhood), are you?
You are nuts! And, you're still my hero. I hope to juggle 10 jobs by the time I'm your age!

Dude, you're anonymous again.
And thanks for reminding me of my advanced age. I'm far too old for all this.
BTW, Shell wants to know the following points:
* When is Isaac's birthday? * Whether he takes Isaac or Peter as patron (I thought Isaac [the Syrian], but am open to being wrong; if Peter, I assume it is Peter the Aleut)? * Whether Marina has a liturgy book and prayer book (either or both)?
I realize that because this is anon you might never see it.

This anonymous thing - I'm telling you, it's a sign.
I only checked this since I saw the number of posts increase -- the mercury's rising, man ... let's see if we can break a record for the "longest totally absurd and off-topic thread!" Or, not.
I'm logged back in (obviously) - I figured out that when I close my laptop, the wireless connection goes out, and when I start back up I'm not on the net until the signal is acquired again ... and I keep dropping LJ (getting it back only when I check my feeds).
So, since we're now carrying on a discussion that doesn't belong in a blog thread and really has nothing to do with OCA Auxiliary Bishops - I'm going to reply to you (rather, your wife). Also, tell her that if I ever need to communicate with her in the future I will post to your blog.
Isaac Peter (named for the Syrian - big sandles to fill, eh?), was born on April 24. And, Marina has a prayer book, but her liturgy book went to holy trash-bin - she prays so darned hard, man.
By the way, did you ever come to any conclusions about your Liturgikon? You have mine, and yours is in pieces in a monastery near me. Do I need to keep the broken one?
Give my best to Sh. Shell.

Hey, with your new layout the comment threads are "skinnier"; we're going to be down to a few words per line if we keep this up.

Thanks for the info. April is a busy month -- 21, my dad's birthday; 22, Troy's birthday; 23, Grady's birthday; and 24, Isaac's birthday.
Your right about this lj style. I don't love it, but it was what I had to do in order to get it to fit on my website layout the way I wanted. Unfortunately, it also makes my fonts bump up in size. Not sure how or why it does that. I've tried in vain to fix it, but I guess I don't know enough about CSS.

And, your website looks nice, too (you're getting the CSS thing ... give it time). Several of your pages are trying to install ActiveX - tsk, tsk. Looking forward to seeing the finished result.
Apparently, Fr. Leo didn't know the purpose of the invitation until he was just about to go home to PA. Imagine a job interview like that! :)
You would surely wonder "what was up" if a bishop from the the opposite end of the country invited you to a regional clergy conference (though, I'm sure that he is invited to speak in different places). I have heard wonderful things about the man - keep us posted if you hear anything on the St. Tikhon's front. |
